Founded in 2005, Typographica Manuscript offers freelance writing, overwriting, content editing, copy-editing, production editing, proofreading and project management services. No outsourcing, no subcontracting; personal involvement at each step of the editing process means consistently clean text – on deadline.
I edit fiction, narrative non-fiction, trade, poetry, academic and education titles for publishing houses and self-publishing clients. I manage the editorial process from the content edit through the production edit to master set, including commissioning artwork, managing artwork and photo budgets, commissioning photo research and commissioning permissions research. I’ve reviewed fiction manuscripts, provided reader’s reports for publishing houses and reviewed published fiction and narrative non-fiction titles for literary journals. I’ve proofread FST magazine for over a year.
I’ve written and co-written 25 titles for South African schools and FET colleges, and have been overwriting manuscripts for eight years for content, structure and language level, often honing text for the second-language reader.
I hold an MA in English (Creative Writing: Poetry) from UCT and current membership of the Professional Editors' Group (PEG), the Southern African Freelancers' Association (SAFREA) and the Association of Non-fiction Authors of South Africa (ANFASA).
Satisfied, long-standing clients include Penguin Random House, Jonathan Ball Publishers; NB Publishers, and its Tafelberg imprint; former Random House Struik imprints eKhaya, Zebra Press and Struik Travel and Heritage; Cambridge University Press; Oxford University Press; Pearson International imprints Pearson Education Africa and Pearson Education South Africa; COMPRESS.dsl; Juta Academic and Juta Learning; HSRC Press; Modjaji Books; Via Afrika; Troupant Publishing; FST Magazine; and Macmillan South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland.
