Rescue dogs, sea kayaks, gravel bikes, mountain bikes, lagoons. Greenhouses. The long game that is meditation practice. Eland, foxes. Jackals. Tea. Nightjars. And books. My name is Angela Voges, and I like books so much I make them for a living.
In 2005 I founded Typographica Manuscript, which offers development editing, copy-editing, production editing and proofreading in trade (fiction and non-fiction), academic and law publishing, for publishing houses. I manage the editorial process from the manuscript development stage, including author relationships – even the tricky ones – independently, personally and invisibly. I write reader’s reports on fiction and narrative non-fiction manuscripts. I have written and co-written twenty-seven titles for South African schools and TVET colleges, and have been overwriting manuscripts for fifteen years for content, structure and language level, often honing text to the needs of second-language readers.
I have an MA with distinction in English (Creative Writing: Poetry) from the University of Cape Town and full membership of the Professional Editors’ Guild (PEG), the Southern African Freelancers’ Association (SAFREA) and the Academic and Non-fiction Authors’ Association of South Africa (ANFASA). I work with Penguin Random House, Jonathan Ball Publishers, NB Publishers, Tafelberg, Kwela, Human & Rousseau, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Cengage Learning, HSRC Press, Pearson and Macmillan South Africa. I could work with you, too.
